-In The Greater Scheme-

'Vicious cycle'.
When was the last time you said that?
'Vicious' is quite clearly redundant.
Cycles are, by nature, vicious.

It's like a dance you don't want to be in.
You can't leave because it's too difficult.
You can't change because the footwork, the moves, it's second nature.
And you just keep dancing.
Even if you do enjoy it, perhaps sometime later, you get tired.
Everyone gets tired.
It's only a matter of who gives up first. Or dies sooner.

Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you.

There's the story of the boy and the bird.
I'm sure you've heard that one.

The boy found a bird, a sparrow sorta thing, but yellow.
Kinda like a love bird.
Small, adorable, and really really endearing.
The boy spotted it on a tree while in the park.
The boy waved to get it's attention.
Birds don't usually fly to you and perch itself on your finger.
Especially when you don't have food, or anything else it fancies.
But miraculously, this one did.
And seeing what a cute little thing it was, the boy held on to it.
In his palm. Not particularly tight, just comfortable.
Every once in a while, the bird would yearn to stretch it's wings.
It would wriggle, and squirm in the closed fist.
Occassionally, he would let go of the bird.
Watch it fly and watch it return.
Sometimes it wouldn't return. Not so soon anyway.
Thinking that the bird wanted to escape, the boy held on tighter.
All this time, the boy took care of the bird.
And they grew to enjoy each other's company.
But somehow, the bird would always want to fly and be free.
The problem with the situation is, birds and humans can't communicate.
Had they been able to talk,
he would know that she wanted to be free.
And she would know that the boy was only afraid of losing her.

As you might know, this story only ends one way.
With the bird flying away one day and, for fear of losing her freedom, not coming back.
Despite the boy's cries for the bird to come back, it never did.
It watched him sometimes from a tree far away.
But physically and metaphorically, they were in every way apart.
She was after all, in need of freedom - to do and be where her heart desires.
As in nature, characteristics like that are hard to change.
And that's the way it is.
What happens after is absolutely random. The bird could just be flying or might find another finger to perch on. Many ways it could turn out. The only truth is, like that dance and the cycle, it comes down to who gets tired first.

I don't want to hurt you
I don't want to make you sway
Like i know i've done before
I will not do it anymore
